Opening boxes for a clear-out.

Sunday 7 June.

The first thing I did when I got up was to climb up into the loft and bring down another batch of boxes. We then had breakfast, our normal Sunday 'full English'. This time we had the South African Escort sausages and they were just as delicious as we remembered.

The day was spent opening boxes and sorting out what we wanted to send over to Scotland and what to chuck out. We came across the box with our CD's and for most of the day a different one was on the player to entertain us. There was also plenty of books. I went through them and selected what was to be kept and the others I put aside to donate to the library tomorrow. One good find we found today among the books was our collection of the Wainwright guides to the Lakeland Fells, these will definitely be going back with us. There was also lots of photographs, especially taken during the races I had run over the years. There was one of my first Comrades as Steve Verity and I crossed the finish line hand in hand after running the whole way together. I posted it on Facebook to remind Steve of that day and he commented later that he remembered it and that it was 'good fun' !!

Across the finish line for our first Comrades

My crossword solving is improving. Yesterday I completed Friday's puzzle and Saturday's prize version and submitted it hopefully. I finished today's in quick time as well with the chance of another prize.

Moira saw Pat from the bottom house in the driveway and we went down to talk to her. She told us that there is the same fighting and squabbling in the complex and the main trouble maker appears to be the woman opposite us, Sheila. I had words with her the last tome we were here and I don't suppose she will be speaking to me. Pat came up to the house and we showed her photographs of our grand kids. She was impressed.

In the afternoon we gave up emptying boxes and had a rest. I sat inside and read a book, I had found in one of the boxes - 'Rumpole of the Bailey'. I had read it years ago but it was good for another session. Moira sat outside on the stoop on a camping chair that i found in the attic. She told me that Sheila came out of her house to walk her dog and just ignored her.

In the evening after dinner, a nice chicken curry with naan bread, we didn't bother with TV. We sat and read until it was bed time. I managed two of the 'Rumpole' short stories and they were very enjoyable.
