Sunday 5 July.
It was a relaxing day today. After breakfast we sat out in the sunshine by the pool at the back. It was still a bit cold outside but surprisingly much warmer than in the house. Alex had Radio 702 on, this is a phone-in station during the week but at the weekend they play non-stop oldies. It was like listening to Johnny Walker's 'Sounds of the 70's' on Radio 2 in the UK on a Sunday.
Alex tried to transfer all his music from his computer to an external hard drive then from there to my Notebook. He ran into difficulties and the files wouldn't copy and paste. He then tried transferring to a memory stick and that worked. He could only do a third of all the music at a time, then I would transfer from the stick to the Notebook then repeat another twice. I checked each time to make sure the tunes were in place and playing, it was OK. He had a lot of Beetle numbers which transferred successfully, these have normally a block put on them. While we were doing this Moira worked in the main bedroom renewing the hooks and wheels on the curtain rails. She washed the curtains then rehung them wet to dry in place.
In the afternoon we sat outside reading and I attempted today's prize crossword, again sticking on a few clues. Alex put the British Grand Prix from Silverstone on the TV. It was a bit more exciting than usual with more overtaking and changes at the front. The rain came on near the end and Hamilton was overtaken by Rosberg but Hamilton timed the change to wet weather tyres perfectly and regained the lead to win. When the motor racing finished we turned over for the second stage of the Tour de France. We missed the initial 'Grand Depart' from Utrecht in Holland yesterday, it was a short time trial of 14 km. it was on when were at the Semple's. Today's stage was over the flat lands of Holland but the weather played havoc. There were strong crosswinds and rain, probably the same weather front that passed over Silverstone earlier. The peleton was split by an accident with last year's winner Nibali and my favourite to win Quintana in the second bunch a minute behind. The second group couldn't make any head way and lost another 30 seconds by the finish. I thought that Cavendish would now be an easy winner with a lot of the other sprinters isolated in the second pack but his lead-out man Mark Renshaw released him too early, he faded and was overtaken before the line to come in fourth. The winner was the German, Greipel. Froome from the Sky team was in the lead peleton and didn't lose any time, neither did Contador the other race favourite.
Alex did a braai for dinner. He cut up a whole chicken and grilled it nicely over the coals. We had it with spaghetti and a nice white wine for a change. After washing up Alex had the TV on but there wasn't anything of any interest to watch. I phoned Hannamie who was back from her visit to Nelspruit and the Kruger Park and arranged to pay her a visit when she finishes work tomorrow. She invited us for dinner but after cooking the chicken on the braai Alex had started to prepare a lamb curry for tomorrow night so we declined her invitation. We sat and read afterwards but we eyes got heavier and heavier, I was soon sleeping in the chair. I woke at about 9:30 pm then it was straight to bed.
