We saw somebody catch a fish!

Sunday 12 July.

While Moira was making our 'full English' weekend breakfast I did some more work chipping away the tile adhesive. I've just about completed the space left where the two tiles were lifted, it just needs a bit of a tidy up. The bacon, sausage and eggs were delicious and once the washing up was done we completed the list of the stuff for Stutterford's. Moira filled in all the forms and it is ready for faxing to them tomorrow. Moira wants to add the camping fridge we have in the cupboard to the list and will enquire if this will add to the cost or not.

With all the work done it was time to head out for a walk. I let Moira decide on today's route and she wanted to go to the beach. We went directly there by Abington Rd then along Commercial Rd to the crossing over the railway line to the seafront. The tide was in and the sand where we had to walk was loose and fine making it hard going. It was also very hot today with a cloudless sky and no wind. There was the usual contingent of fishermen about and this time we did see one of them catch a fish as we passed. It was only a small one and he had no trouble reeling it in. When we reached the carpark and the kiosk at the swimming area we were worn out with the heat and the tiring underfoot conditions so found a bench for a 10 minute rest. The beach was quite busy and there were some people in swimming. Again it was surprising that there weren't any surfers as the waves looked ideal for their sport. We left and cut up beside the bowling green but there wasn't anyone playing. We crossed the bridge over the main road then went straight up the hill on the other side to the t-junction at Ibis Rd then home. It had been an enjoyable walk, about 1.5 hours, and good exercise.

Before going to the house we called in at Alison's. I asked her to get me details of the income and expenses from the period the house was let last year for my tax return. She is also going to find somebody that will remove the old freezer that is lying in our garage. And lastly her husband Peter will collect Moira's driving licence from the traffic office, it will be ready for collection after we are away.

It was lunch time when we got back and afterwards we sat outside and read our books on the front stoop. Unfortunately it clouded over and once the sun was obscured it got cold. We came in and continued reading inside. The cycling today was a team time trial of 28 km from Vannes to Plumelec. It wasn't very interesting until the final few teams started out on the course so I continued reading and watching with 'one eye'. I finished the Ian Rankin book 'Witch Hunt' just as the team Moviestar began. This was the team with my favourite to win, Quintana the Colombian rider. It was a hilly route and it suited this light-weight-hill climber and they set the best time with only two teams still to go. These were BMC the World Team TT champions and Sky. They both pipped Moviestar by a few seconds but although Quintana is still nearly 2 minutes behind Froome he has gained time on a lot of the others and has moved into the top 10.

When the cycling finished I turned over to the BBC Knowledge channel. There was the final part in the journey through Africa by train. It was from Jo'burg to Cape Town. It was very good and visit the big hole at Kimberley, the ostrich farms at Oudtshoorn and through the Karoo on a luxury train that had comfortable sofas and even a bath to wash and relax in. The journey actually went a bit further down the peninsula and the railway line went as far as Simon's Town. It was a good programme, it was made in 2014 and I was surprised we hadn't seen it in the UK.

For dinner tonight we had lovely gigot chops with boiled potatoes and broccoli with a slightly curried sauce. I worked on the prize crossword in today's 'Telegraph' but not successfully. There was a celebrity 'Chase' and 'Eggheads' on the TV later but when I started watching each they were repeats of what we saw a few days ago. I don't know why with all the programmes that the BBC have in their archives there has to be repeats. I put on the tennis at Wimbledon and it was the men's final between Federer and Djokovic. It was 2-1 in sets to Djokovic when I switched over and he then broke Federer's service twice to win the Championship. Later there was 'Call the Midwife' and I was expecting it was the same one we watched the other night but luckily it was a different one. But we had seen it in the UK and watched it anyway before getting to bed.
