An African Products re-union?

Friday 3 July.

We didn't do much today. After breakfast I downloaded the photographs I took yesterday to the Notebook and Google+ then updated my blog. It was one of the days that Alex has his maid in so we sat outside in the back garden to read. The dogs had to be kept out of the house as well, the maid is terrified of them. Alex was busy cleaning his swimming pool but it was a bit of a wasted effort as later his garden service people arrived and after cutting the grass etc they used a blower to clean the stoop and paths. A lot of the stuff was blown into the pool. Alex checked out the battery charger we bought yesterday on one of his batteries. It seemed to be working all right.

Alex had an early lunch then he was off to play a round of golf with some of his friends. I started the Ian Rankin book I got from the library, 'Witch Hunt', it was good and I read it all afternoon until 4 pm when we were going out. We were meeting Tom and Alan Brady at McGinty's pub in Northmead Sq., Kubus Henning was also coming up from Meyerton to see us again. It was an African Products re-union. Alex was to join us later after his golf and run us home. Tom had said to phone him for lift to the pub but as we hadn't been out all day we decided to walk and get some exercise.

We walked up to Mercury St and after crossing the Great North Rd turned up Kanna St where we lived before moving to the coast. Our old house had a large wall round the garden so we couldn't see much but what was visible looked much the same. I had put an anorak on thinking it would be cold as the sun went down but it stayed quite warm. We took the road past the police college then down beside Benoni High School to Northmead Sq.

We were a bit late and the others were all there already. Alan was looking quite health even though he had an operation recently for some sort of cancer in one of his eyes. The operation was done by a surgeon in Cape Town and there was radiation treatment. It appears to have been successful and the cancer has cleared up. Kubus looked much the same and although his has also retired he is doing some work for Afprod on the technical side and also selling some products for them. We were there for about an hour and a half and reminisced over our years with Afprod. It was the telling of old stories that were funny at the time and still amusing and remembering other people that were with the company over our time there. Alex arrived about 6:30 pm with one of his golf mates, Moira joined them and left us to talk 'old shop' . Kubus and Alan left first and Moira took some photographs before they left. It wasn't long before the rest of us packed in and headed home, it had been a very enjoyable session.

When we got back Alex started straight away making the dinner. Moira offer to assist but he had everything in hand. We had ostrich hamburgers with cauliflower and chips. It was very nice with a red wine to accompany it. It shouldn't have had the wine on top of the beer I already had. When we finished all I was fit for was bed. I left the dishes to do in the morning, Moira was happy with that arrangement. I was soon sleeping and Moira hardly disturbed me when she came to bed later.
